There was no other solution, the closest bikeshop who perhaps can fix Katrin´s electronic bike is 400 km away. Of course we tried everything else before, like calling BionX and asking them what might be wrong. But they dont know what to do, except sending us to the nearest dealer, who is 400 km away. We also went to a local bike shop with a very helpful guy. He checked our bikes very well and changed a few parts. When we left, he offered to get us anywhere in case of problems. But he doesn´t have to! We rented a car and covered in 5 hours as much miles as in 5 days on the bike.
Of course we would have liked to take a bus down to Dallas. But that is not so easy here. First obstacle, find the bus station (hidden in a gas station). Second obstacle, accept the price (85$ per person). Third obstacle, be told, that it is not sure whether the bus takes the bikes on board. For that, we should call the main office and inquire ourselves, since the ticket counter lady doesnt know and can not be bothered to offer that service and inquire herself.
So we rented a car, from Hertz for less that the bus ticket. But it involved cleaning it before using it, we found an old open jus jar and two packs of tablets in it, the rest is just not well cleaned. Later we checked into a Days Inn Motel along the highway. Huge hotel, nice staff, apart from an other man, we seem to be the only guests. That is very good so! It means they have a lot of empty rooms, because we need to change the room several times. The first room has a toilet that doesn´t flush. Not do mention a cupboard mirror door that is derailed. We got a new room, there the toilet has worked so well, that the bathroom is under water. Finally we get a third room, which seem ok. By the way, in each room is a little sign written by the management saying they are so proud to be our hosts and that in all rooms everything works. Well they dont keep their promise and then, is that not what you expect renting a room? The amazing part in all this experiences, nobody seems to really care or get upest. Sorry, that´s all you hear!
