We made it to Toronto! It wasn´t easy, the day started wonderful with a marvelous road along the lake, green countryside, rolling hills and little towns. It´s fall fair time, many small fairs take place. One we passed was in a little town, were the main street was closed and the road lined with old and big vintage cars. Fun to see. The pride and affection people have here for the cars was really visible. But the cars have their downside, traffic is heavy the closer you come to big towns, some cars, mainly the pickups are really loud. While in Europe you see almost no US cars, here they are, a lot of them and really huge ones. Remember 3 years ago, US carmakers like GM promised to make smaller fuel efficient cars to survive. Well they survived without starting to make such cars, they still sell this crimes to the environment! But people here buy them and as environmental issues are not high on the agenda here, probably people dont understand why these cars are stupid. But we hear many complaints about the high fuel prices, here about 1.25 Canadien Dollar, which is in European eyes very cheap.
We were quite upset yesterday going into Toronto. Bicyle-lines are not going through, some start then stop again, its hard to find them and where there are none, biking is very dangerous. That way, its impossible to get people on the bike and traffic down.
In the fading light we found a hotel, bought us some groceries in a nearby shoping center and had a lovely dinner in the room, looking into the lights of the city.
