Mahone Bay to Bridgewater (45 km)

After all clothes were dried, we left and drove to Lunenburg, a small town founded early 1700. After no Britsh people could be found anymore who wanted to move to Nova Scotia, the British tried to find people from other nations to move there. So the looked for Germans and Swiss. We visited a museum were all the names of the early settler were listed, many swiss sounding names but neither Häubi nor Rumpe.
They all lived from fishing and ship builing , a very tough life, it gets extremly cold here in winter. The fish was brought back to Europe or traded in for sugar and Rhum in the Caribien.
Today also here like on many other places we saw, the fishing industry is battling to survive, overfishing has taken it´s toll and so traditions die out here.
After a real coffee (rare here) we went on and passed a carpenter who makes the famous east coast chairs. It´s a Swiss family, (Rena and Esther Haltner, http://www.zwickerltd.com/)! Rene saw us taking this picture, came out and we started to talk and ended up being invited for dinner! They served St. Galler Bratwurst and swiss choclate, which we really enjoyed! Thanks again!
They had moved here with 3 kids 8 years ago, bought this business after 2 days thinking about it. Great spirit, we learnt a lot that evening.
